About the Stronger than Sarcopenia Campaign

About the Stronger than Sarcopenia Campaign

Sarcopenia is an important public health concern that affects an estimated 10–20% of older adults in the U.S., highlighting the need for proactive strategies to support strength, mobility, and independence while reducing the risk of falls, fractures, hospitalization, and mortality. Despite its widespread prevalence and the substantial effects sarcopenia can have on the lives of those it impacts, knowledge of the condition and what can be done to address it is relatively low.

About the Campaign

Recognizing this gap, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office on Women’s Health (OWH) created the Stronger than Sarcopenia campaign.

The goal of the Stronger than Sarcopenia campaign is to bring attention to sarcopenia as a condition and the positive behaviors that can be adopted to address this condition through increased:

  • Understanding of the common ways to address sarcopenia
  • Clinical resources and education related to sarcopenia for those at risk for developing sarcopenia, those affected by sarcopenia, and health care providers

  • Resources and education for health care providers looking to address sarcopenia among their patients.
