WOMAN Challenge: Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation
Would you like to stay active all year long?
Join the WOMAN Activity Tracker!
19,406 people and 1,263 teams participated in the 2008 WOMAN Challenge!
Here is what others have said about the
WOMAN Challenge!

"My 21-year-old daughter is the one that inspired me to get moving! I am so thankful that she cared enough to ask me to start exercising and to take the time to exercise with me. I chose the Pacific Coast Route since I have another daughter living in Yorba Linda, CA. I imagined visiting with her as we passed through. A bonus was starting the route in Alaska, since I have a dear friend who recently relocated to Anchorage! I am so thankful for family, friends, and for life itself!"
2008 Team Showcase

Team Name:
Virginia Beauties
Number of Team Members:
10
Team Member Location:
Virginia

"Our team is made up of phenomenal women from all over Virginia. The common thread is that we have all lost weight through a lot of hard work and dedication. We had different types of weight loss surgery and use our "tool" in conjunction with exercise to meet our goals and gain good health."

All About Teams

You can participate in the WOMAN Challenge as an individual or as part of a team. Creating or joining a team is not only motivational, but also a great way to stay in touch with friends and family across the country! Research has shown that participating on a team can increase your level of commitment to the WOMAN Challenge and your level of success in reaching your goals.

To participate on a team:

  1. Talk to your potential teammates and discuss with them who would like to be the team leader. You can learn more about what being a team leader means by exploring the links at the bottom of this page.

  2. If you will be the team leader: after registering for the Challenge, visit the My WOMAN Challenge page and select Become a Team Leader to create and name the team. To find and select your team members and link them to your new team, visit the My Team page and choose Add Team Members and follow the listed instructions.

  3. If you will not be the team leader: after registering for the Challenge, visit the My WOMAN Challenge page and select Find a Team to Join to locate the team your team leader has created and officially join the team by following the instructions listed.

  4. Being a team leader means that you will create the team, and will have the ability to find and select your team members (once they have registered) to join your team. Also, the team leader should provide support and motivation to their teammates, encouraging them to log their physical activity each day and congratulating them on their successes!

Team Communication Tools

In order to help you do a great job as a team leader, we've put together some suggestions for ways you can motivate and keep your teammates connected to the WOMAN Challenge:

  • Social Networking Groups* - Allows users to create a profile, define themselves as part of a group, and communicate with other members of the network and/or group. Groups are ideal for team members or leaders as a means of team communication.
  • Blogging* - Allows a user to create an online journal ordered by date. Others can view the blog and make comments on entries made by the owner. Blogs are ideal for team leaders as a means of communicating to team members on a daily basis.

*Suggestions for team communication tool are neither supported nor endorsed by the WOMAN Challenge. Support for these products and services are available on their parent sites.
