Description: “Join Me To Screen: A Promise to Myself” is a one day training workshop for 50 low-income under served women and girls in DeKalb County on improving their health conditions. The goal of the project is to: 1) Educate 50 women and girls about action steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease; 2) Encourage 50 low-income women and girls to make screenings, such as pap smears and breast exams, routine; 3) Empower 50 low-income women residents of DeKalb to eat healthy and get healthier; 4) By May 2013 increase the proportion by 65% of low-income women in DeKalb who engage regularly, preferably daily, in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day; 5) Create a strong environment that supports healthy behaviors and reduces people’s risk for heart attack, colon cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and risk for stroke; 6) Promote and provide professional education on women’s health issues supporting the shift from reaction to prevention in health care; 7) Encourage women and girls to make health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life; 8) Women and girls residents of DeKalb will improve physical activity by 65% at the end of project; 9) To build a strong environment that supports healthy eating and active living by shifting from reaction to prevention in health care at the end of training; and 10) Reduce participant’s risk for heart attack, colon cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and risk for stroke by 35% in three months.

This is a public event and is open to the general public.
