This publication explains why, before, some patients with certain kinds of heart disease or a special heart condition, or who have had a joint replaced, may have needed antibiotics before their dental treatment. But now, the AHA recommends that most of these patients no longer need short-term antibiotics as a preventive measure before their dental treatment.
