Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a form of child abuse in which a parent induces real or apparent symptoms of a disease in a child. This publication discusses its causes, symptoms, treatment, prognosis, possible complications and prevention. It also discusses when to contact a medical professional and the exams and tests that are done to determine if a parent has this disorder.
