Advances in understanding the genetic basis of individual drug responses have come from the NIH Pharmacogenetics Research Network (PGRN). Tests for individual drug responses based on genetic makeup can now assist doctors in designing the best treatment for patients with childhood leukemia, breast cancer and heart disease, among others.
